History of Central Glass
Central Glass was established in May 1977 as a glass processor and glazier. At that stage the main processing was for the bathroom cabinet industry with substantial quantities of mirrors and glass shelving being produced.
This activity was expanded into re-glazing broken windows in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and then glazing most new House Trust houses in Elizabeth, Craigmore, Gawler and Salisbury.
The current premises were aquired in 1984, which gave Central Glass room to develop glass merchanising and expand into supplying the furniture industry. At this time, Pioneer Homes were in their prime and Central Glass were able to capture most of their timber framed glazing work for new homes.
As part of our programme of targeted diversification, Central Glass entered into partnership with Woodroffe (Alulite), manufactuiring commercial shopfronts and eventually, in May 1989, Central Glass purchased the whole business. This enabled Central Glass to have better control and pass the subsequent savings onto their customers.
As a result of this diversification Central Glass secured very good business in supplying windows for most schools built in the state during this period.
Central Glass next expanded into retail store fit-outs, supplying class cubes, display cabinets, mirrors and other fixtures. A natural extension of this was Central Glass’ involvement in internal office partitioning and office refurbishment.
Central Glass then purchased Clearview Aluminum Windows and Doors in May 1996. Clearview had been a customer of Central Glass and had been manufacturing aluminium framed windows and doors for some 24 years and had a good name in the housing industry.
